What is the purpose of the role?
We are seeking experienced Assistant Quantity Surveyor/ Quantity Surveyors to join our expanding teams in Berkshire, Oxfordshire and London. This is a great development opportunity for an intermediate level Quantity Surveyor who is seeking a career enhancement or progression. The successful candidate will work within our estimating team to prepare tender submissions including taking quantities, preparing subcontractor and supplier enquiries, and assessing and processing subcontractor payment applications. The post could eventually include in-house training in order to extend the role to include estimating in the future. This is a key role that will give you lots of exposure in the business as you will be the main point of contact in providing commercial advice in our South East region.

This role offers the opportunity to carry out a diverse role with wide range of Quantity Surveying aspects from measurements on site to dispute resolutions and be the lead regional commercial point of contact with contractors. This is a unique role which offers you the opportunity to become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. This role offers you to the opportunity to work within a very successful structured APC training programme with a support network of a number of Chartered Quantity Surveyors, RICS APC assessors and colleagues studying to become MRICS.
What will this role involve?
Responsibilities for the successful Quantity Surveyor will vary depending on the nature and stage of the project being worked on, but can include:
Being responsible for all commercial aspects related to £20m of spend.
Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or the client.
Undertaking cost analysis for repair and maintenance project work.
Assisting in establishing a client's requirements and undertaking feasibility studies.
Performing risk, value management and cost control.
Advising on procurement strategy.
Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks.
Preparing and analysing costings for tenders.
Allocating work to subcontractors.
Providing advice on contractual claims.
Analysing outcomes and writing detailed progress reports.
Valuing completed work and arranging payments.
Maintaining awareness of the different building contracts in current use.
Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations.
What are we looking for?
This is a very fast paced role and not static, hence it requires someone who can take ownership of events, think on their feet, devise a plan of action and implement effective solutions. You are the kind of person who takes ownership and leadership of commercial tasks. The ideal candidate will have the gravitas to communicate with senior management whilst also being able to advise on individual site based projects. Ideally but not essential the Quantity Surveyor applicant would have formal qualifications in Quantity Surveying with work history as a Quantity Surveyor for a building contractor.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is based in Reading and we are offering a salary of up to £45,000 per annum depending on skills and experience. Please note this role will involve travel to different company sites so a valid UK driving licence is essential.
