What is the purpose of the role?
The Business Analyst will be experienced in providing business analysis services, and will provide business analysis expertise.
Reporting to the Business analysis Team Manager, the Business Analyst will: elicit, document, verify and manage business requirements to time, cost and quality, in line with the Thames Water Business Analysis standards and processes, enabling business and technical change.

What will this role involve?
Estimate, plan and define explicit, quantified and testable requirements through analysis activities including elicitation, documentation, validation, tracing and management of requirements. Facilitate scoping and business priority-setting for change initiatives of small or medium size and complexity.
Deliver Business Analysis outputs including as-is analysis, process diagrams, high and low level business requirements and non-functional requirements. Quality assure Business Analysis deliverables i.e. requirements, for fitness of purpose as well as adherence to business objectives and consistency, challenging positively as appropriate.
Provide requirements consultancy throughout the project lifecycle; Develop and maintain end to end Business Requirements traceability and document as a Traceability Matrix. Ensuring traceability remains correct and current and that Requirements Traceability is fully documented as the 'go to' reference source, ensuring status and ownership communicated to all relevant stakeholders. Manage requests for and the application of changes to base-lined requirements and articulate the impact of these on business requirements.
Working on projects, either on your own or as part of a team, provide timely updates to key stakeholders including project and programme managers and your leaders within the Business Analysis team. This will include initial and ongoing resource estimates, progress, slippage, risks, issues, and quality assessments such as peer reviews.
Collaborate with IS colleagues and stakeholders/users to investigate and document business functions, processes, information flows and data structures/objects that will meet business requirements, using approved Thames Water Business Analysis methods, tools and techniques. Challenge positively and constructively where appropriate and work collaboratively with colleagues across the project lifecycle.
You will assist the Programme/Project Manager in defining and justifying (in business terms) initiatives to develop/implement automated and non-automated components of new or changed processes.
Contribute towards the continuous improvement of Business Analysis across Thames Water. Execute additional tasks in order to meet departmental / team project-related, development and change objectives.

Strong understanding of business processes and how technology supports the business and the use of technology within the utilities industry and / or proven working knowledge of technical applications and the software development lifecycle.
Strong skills in Information capture techniques, Business analysis techniques, Information modelling tools and Business proposals. Excellent skills in writing clear, concise and grammatically correct English. Able to understand technical discussions and issues and interpret for a Business audience and vice-versa.
A disciplined and analytical approach to problem solving. With good inter-personal skills and is confident in dealing with stakeholders. A good verbal communicator - listens, responds and questions appropriately. Able to challenge constructively and influence.
Ideally a number of years' experience in business analysis, process modelling and improvement, and requirements definition and analysis; with 2 significant prior business analyses focussed roles. With previous experience in a utilities, manufacturing, engineering, manufacturing, banking or financial commercial organisation.
Relevant professional qualifications in Business Analysis disciplines, such as BCS certificates/diploma or proven experience. Qualified to Prince 2 Foundation or be able to demonstrate good understanding of project management methodology and have worked on large transformational projects.

The role is based in Reading and is paying up to £45,000.
