What is the purpose of the role?
The DevOps Engineer is a professional working within an agile DevOps team delivering digital products. This role will help facilitate continuous delivery of quality software using DevOps practices and principles. The role requires a broad cross section of skills. It is working with the team and wider Thames Water business on-site to ensure that the right practices are in place and to take the lead on automating as far as possible. This is a hands-on role, actively pairing to share knowledge and increase delivery teams maturity around Operability. The role will develop key relationships within the business and the IT organisation particularly amongst the support and security teams.

What will this role involve?
The role will develop key relationships within the business and the IT organisation particularly amongst the support and security teams. The role will be responsible for:
Managing continuous deployment of internal and external cloud systems.
Monitoring and creating dashboards for deployed cloud systems.
Preventing and monitoring security vulnerabilities.
Making sure systems are patched for known vulnerabilities.
Adhering to the best InfoSec and Devops practices.
Working closely with the rest of the DevOps team, to improve the delivery process.
Supporting the platform.
What are we looking for?
You will have a high number of years of experience as a DevOps Engineer and have the ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and cloud services. You will have experience with using Azure. You will have numerous years of experience with continuous integration platform such as Jenkins. For essential technical skills we are looking for someone with a high number of years' experience with DevOps software tools such as Kubernetes, Terraform and Docker. You will also have a high number of years of experience with coding using JAVA, HTML5, DB2, XML. You would have previously worked with REST APIs and micro services exposure. Using agile techniques including User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games. Your previous experience would have been working in digital delivery in a utility environment, working for a digital agency or systems integrator. Other desirable technical skills include you having knowledge of other agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD and being qualified as a IT practitioner.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is based in our offices in Swindon, and is offering a salary between £40,800 and £55,200 dependent on experience.
