What is the purpose of the role?
The purpose of this role is to provide a one stop shop for internal customers in water. This will include the appraisal and investigation of existing plant design and the engagement of specialist skills to determine optimum engineering solutions for plant modernisation/refurbishment works. You will manage and deliver these works in a safe and efficient manner to programme and budget. Due to the nature of the role, there will be travel required across your region for which you will receive a car allowance.

What will this role involve?
You will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, testing or repairing as appropriate, SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) and associated PLCs, instrumentation, control and automation equipment for our internal projects.
You will also be responsible for:
Carrying out engineering appraisals of asset condition, function and failure.
Prepare appropriately detailed scope and requirements document.
Providing engineering solutions for plant modernisation/refurbishment works, providing input to optimise plant operability and maintainability and efficiency.
Managing the procurement process for Bought in Services, materials and labour, working closely with framework suppliers and approved sub-contractors.
Leading and managing multi-disciplined site based teams combining both direct and in-directly labour.
Site based co-ordination of multi-disciplined installation/refurbishment works.
Comply with H&S Legislation / TWUK&I Safety Regulations.
What are we looking for?
To be considered, you will possess a wealth of experience in instrumentation, control and automation within the clean water industry ideally. You will have worked on a range of projects or within a project environment. Previous experience working with third party contractors is key and you must be confident communicating with colleagues across all levels of an organisation. You will be numerate and literate with the ability and willingness to train and develop your personal skill base, work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to deliver specified outputs. You will have detailed knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues with particular reference to construction works including CDM. Relevant qualifications required are BTEC/HND in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, ideally with progressed career that includes an Indentured Apprenticeship in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Previous experience in managing site activities and controlling Risk Assessments and Method Statements would be advantageous. Desirable skills and qualifications include ICA knowledge, alarms / telemetry / programming, IOSH / a NEBOSH qualification, confined space trained, understanding industry permitting requirements, SAP and AutoCAD. Due to the nature of the role a valid driving licence is required, and you will receive a car allowance.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is offering up to £46,000 depending on skills and experience. It will be based at Fobney Water Treatment Works, Reading however there is some flexibility on the base location within the Thames Valley.
