What is the purpose of the role?
Are you an experienced mechanical and / or electrical technician seeking your next challenging role? We have an exciting opportunity working in the UK's largest water and waste water organisation, serving 15 million customers. We are seeking an experienced candidate with a qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering. You will be tasked with ensuring that all electrical and mechanical equipment at our sites are running safely and efficiently using both proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will need to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate electrical plant equipment. You will follow robust maintenance plan as well as getting involved in minor installation projects, electrical fault finding and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plants operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

What will this role involve?
You will be tasked with carrying out installation works on a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment across our sites.
Key areas of responsibility will include:
Carry out electrical or mechanical installation work at a variety of industrial / construction locations.
Inspect and test work of installations to check compliance with current Standards and Regulations.
Carry out maintenance and fault finding at our Berkshire based sites.
Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate with up to date technical knowledge, and provide training support for technical trainees.
React to any maintenance work required during un-scheduled emergency maintenance work.
Carry out the repair and maintenance of electrical motor drive systems and associated control systems including inverter drives.
Examples of equipment you will be working on will be: 3 phase motors, starters and controls, Electronic control systems such as VSD's, Automatic valves and penstocks, Flow, level and pressure measurement, Programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, Chemical handling and dosing equipment.
What are we looking for?
To be considered for this role, it is essential that you have practical experience within a mechanical and / or electrical engineering based role. You will possess qualifications in this area and must have a hands on and proactive approach to work. Someone with experience in a mechanical or electrical apprenticeship would be highly considered or an NVQ, level 3, in mechanical / electrical engineering. You will have experience of working on industrial plant equipment. You will also preferably have a BTEC HNC in electrical engineering and also mechanical training with experience of electrical inspection and testing with 17th Edition, and possessing LV/HV knowledge and experience.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is offering a salary of circa £34,000 depending on skills and experience and will be based out of our Speen site in Berkshire. We also offer 2 paid volunteering days per year. Participation in a 24/7 Out of Hours Standby rota may be required, for which you will receive an additional payment.
