What is the purpose of the role?
The purpose of the role will be to lead, coordinate, train and develop a team of analysts to undertake the preparation and analysis of samples for the determination of Metals chemistry components. The Team Leader will take responsibility for resources including analytical instrumentation, materials and laboratory infrastructure within the agreed budget and deadlines.

This is a key role within a high-throughput laboratory, which is well equipped with state of the art analytical instrumentation. This particular team are passionate about maintaining the quality of drinking water and providing an excellent service to customers. We are looking for an effective problem solver to contribute to the development and validation of analytical techniques and play a part in selecting future processes to meet changing customer demands.
What will this role involve?
Managing all the people aspects of a small team in line with company policy.
Developing and contributing towards operational efficiency.
Optimising service delivery, in line with service line agreements and key performance indicators.
Carrying out analysis as required and maintaining a high level of technical competence.
Compliance with all aspects of Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) 'competent person' guidance document.
What are we looking for?
To be considered for this role you must hold a HNC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a scientific discipline and, ideally, a membership within a professional body in line with DWI guidance. You must be able to demonstrate relevant industry experience and a solid technical understanding. The ideal candidate will have strong business awareness and can think about the team's goals both independently and within the organisation as a whole. The ability to lead, manage, motivate and develop people within a team is key. Good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills are imperative. We are looking for someone who can work well under pressure and prioritise intelligently to react to issues when they arise. Please note you will need to be fully competent with MS Office.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is based at our Spencer House site in Reading. The salary will be up to £30,000 depending on your skills and experience.
