What is the purpose of the role?
Do you enjoy working on basic mechanical equipment, locating / finding faults & working these through to a fixable logical solution? If the answer is yes, this role could be for you. Being reliable with a keen eye for detail is the first step to getting this job. We are looking for someone who has a basic mechanical knowledge & a keenness to improve their skills. You must also possess manual dexterity and physical stamina. The role of a mobile based process operative is to perform a range of assigned front line activities including operation, testing, routine checks, maintenance and problem solving to ensure that services are delivered to time, cost and quality standards. In some cases, this may include planned and preventative maintenance of equipment to support the operation of the plant. The role is based at Greenwich sewage pumping station, looking after 6 other SPS sites within South London catchment.

What will this role involve?
This role will involve, but not be limited to:
Operation of plant and equipment.
Cleaning, basic maintenance and fault-finding.
Monitoring, collating and reporting of data to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance is met.
Undertake safety and security checks.
If qualified, this may include the planned and preventative maintenance of equipment to support the operation of the plant.
Assisting tideway projects.
Take personal responsibility for health and safety of self and colleagues.
What are we looking for?
Do you have similar experience working in an outside, manual role? We are looking for someone who is keen to get stuck in and will have a great proactive approach. You will have basic literacy and numeracy skills and must be prepared to be trained in safety procedures including confined space entry. Some computer data input /enquiry experience is desirable. Due to the nature of the role a vehicle will be supplied for work use, therefore a full, valid UK driving licence is required.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is based at Greenwich Storm sewage pumping station in London. We are offering a salary of up to £30,000 depending on skills and experience. We also offer 2 paid volunteering days per year. After suitable period of training, participation in a 24/7 out of hour's standby rota will be required, for which you will receive an additional payment.
