What is the purpose of the role?
We're looking for a dynamic and results-oriented Senior Internal Communications Manager to join our ambitious internal communications team at Thames Water. We work in a critical and fascinating business that delivers water and wastewater service to a quarter of the UK, provides world class drinking water to nine million people, sustains our rivers and produces enough renewable energy every year to power a town the size of Swindon. This newly created position will take a lead role in evolving the way we communicate with our people. We're looking for an experienced communications professional capable of engaging and inspiring colleagues with innovative and impactful communications campaigns that promote the company's strategic objectives, vision and culture. You'll support the Head of Corporate Internal Communications, working with leaders to create compelling and engaging communications, and deputise as necessary. You'll be responsible for managing our key corporate channels, work with the wider communication teams to establish plans and priorities, as well as measure the success of communications. You'll also liaise with our marketing teams to ensure all messaging is aligned and their campaigns are reflected in our internal messaging.
What makes this role unique?
You'll be given responsibility to take a lead communications role in significant areas of the business, managing relationships with our business leaders to understand and deliver their priorities. This is a great opportunity to work independently and shape the job in the way you want while being as creative as possible. You will also create brilliant measurable two-way campaigns that will help to drive performance and engagement across the business and play a major part in the success of Thames Water.
What will this role involve?
This is a fast-paced role in Britain's biggest water company where you will generate ideas while managing multiple projects which inform and engage our workforce.
You'll create regular company and leadership communications aligned to the business strategy, and manage the key corporate communication channels, ensuring the highest quality messaging is being delivered to more than 7,000 people.
We need you to be a strong writer with a proven track record of measuring the success of campaigns.
You'll also be responsible for managing the air traffic control across the internal communications function, ensuring that all teams are aligned on key strategic messages and immediate priorities.
You will work alongside internal communications colleagues and a proven collaborative approach is non-negotiable.
What are we looking for?
To be successful in your application, you'll ideally have experience in leadership communications and have a talent for creating inspiring internal communications campaigns to engage employees across a complex business. You'll have excellent relationship building skills and quickly develop a connection with a range of stakeholders and senior managers. You'll have proven experience in reporting on communication effectiveness using data and insights, and the ability to convey this in a compelling way that is easy to understand. You'll have an exceptional track record utilising a range of communication tools and channels effectively and measuring their success. You'll be digitally savvy and open to using new technology as part of our comms approach. You will have excellent verbal, written and presentation skills and be able to write compelling, accurate and concise material for a range of internal audiences. You will have a good track-record of developing and delivering communications plans and measuring their success. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes, SharePoint and email content systems like Poppulo is preferred, and experience in producing video and online content would be an advantage. An internal communications qualification, with a focus on measurement, would certainly be a bonus. A strong preference for drinking tap water over bottled and commitment to not flush wet wipes down the toilet would also help your chances.
