What is the purpose of the role?
This role is responsible for the management and provision of all test environments to support new or changed IT service projects to meet business needs on behalf of Thames Water. You will be responsible for liaising with all in-flight and pipeline projects to map project environment requirements to current availability. You will also manage all environment issues and incidents to completion. You are adept at managing environment contention issues to a solution. This is a key role within our busy Service Transition Team and will involve you building relationships both within this team and other departments across our business.

What will this role involve?
The Test Environments Lead role and responsibilities are as follows:
To support project/BAU delivery whilst minimising the risk of change to operations and assess and mitigate the risk of environment sharing.
Communications to stakeholders i.e. scheduling, freeze periods, outage.
Plan environment usage to ensure that all environments are available to projects within given timeframes.
You must have configuration management experience to manage and understand any changes within the environment from a data set and code configuration management perspective.
Technical knowledge of and experience within SAP, SQL, Azure, AIX, Wintel environments.
Provide progress reports, including risk mitigation, as directed and attend CAB to provide environments approval for change.
Continuous service improvement - Develop, make recommendations and own Environment Management CSI activities to improve overall process delivery Cognisant of GDPR compliance.
This role requires excellent service management and environment.
Management skills with a high level of understanding of IT operations.
Experience of working within a matrix organisation with a significant level of outsourced / off-shore suppliers is essential.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with a heavy environment management background with solid understanding of project management principles - adhering to ITIL/ITSM standards whilst meeting the customer needs. ISTQB, ISEB Software testing You must have good technical knowledge of IT infrastructure and systems used within a corporate environment, along with development environments such as continuous delivery and DevOps. Technical skills we are looking for are environment management, customer service techniques, technical understanding of environment delivery techniques. E.g. Database sizing, disk sizing etc and stakeholder management. The right candidate, will have the ability to influence senior customers and stakeholders with a strong team working method and excellent collaboration skills.

This role is based at our Reading head office and is offering a salary of up to £52,000.
