What is the purpose of the role?
The purpose of this role is to work closely with our contractors to ensure the timely and smooth delivery of mains network upgrades across the Thames Valley. You will be responsible for supporting our contractors to carry out necessary water network upgrades, ensuring that customers have a minimal amount of disruption to their supply and keeping abreast of any issues that may arise. You will be tasked with checking that network pipes are installed correctly, work is being carried out to business agreed timescales, carrying out mains shuts, water sampling, checking water quality as well as managing your own work schedule to deliver these activities efficiently.

You will form part of a forward thinking and proactive area of the business, delivering upgrades to our water network across the Thames Valley. You will be collaborating with a range of gangs to deliver the planned mains upgrade works working in a small and supportive team. What will this role involve?
You will be required to carry out various network operations in the field in order to progress the mains upgrade programme of work in an efficient manner - giving the best service to all stakeholders involved - contractors and customers alike.
Key areas of responsibility will include: Work collaboratively with contractors to ensure regular delivery of the network mains upgrade programme.
Operation of the mains network, including controlling burst mains, ensuring isolation of mains to facilitate planned work, repairs and maintenance.
Ensure water quality compliance during work.
Minimise and prevent supply interruption, liaising with customers and working to resolve problems where necessary to ensure service is delivered efficiently
Shutting of mains networks in order to allow for works to be carried out.
Support the local network teams where required, also supporting network PRV servicing and District meter exchanges where needed.
Develop and enhance working relationships with other teams across the clean water business.
Act as local network expert for isolation and rezoning providing information for risk assessments and sharing information regarding network risks and other health and safety issues
What are we looking for?
We are seeking an experienced water network technician who has practical involvement of working on clean water networks. You will understand and demonstrate best practice, and ideally have relevant water network qualifications in operating water networks (desirable). Full training will be provided, however you will have worked in the water industry in a field based role, and have some good exposure to the challenges that upgrading a network can present. You will ideally have worked alongside contractors, and must be confident in your own ability to deliver programmes of work. You will be self-motivated, have worked within an operational/network role with a strong emphasis on health and safety. As the role involves driving to multiple locations, you must be a confident driver, as well as holding a full, UK driving licence. This role will require additional hours to be worked, for which you will receive an enhancement on top of your basic salary of 28.2%. This will be outside of normal core working hours. Some night, weekend shifts will also be necessary.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is offering a salary of circa £20,400- £27,000 based on skills and experience. Due to the nature of the role, you will be required to travel across the Thames Valley.
