Serco Defence delivers a wide range of support to the prestigious Skynet contract providing secure satellite communication services to the UK Government and Armed Forces.
We currently have a full-time opportunity for a 2nd Line Maintenance Engineer to join the existing team at Oakhanger. The purpose of the role is to Provide days support for all Skynet Engineering aspects in support of Network Operations.
Main Accountabilities
- To set up and maintain communication service requests when required to assist operations.
- Investigate and monitor faults on any system or equipment as directed by the Installation & Maintenance Supervisor.
- Conduct, record and report on all fault monitoring and rectification activities.
- Scheduled maintenance tasks as notified by SAP PM and ensuring all engineering activities are recorded within SAP PM.
- To periodically review and suggest updates to Paradigm Procedures and other associated documentation.
- Create/change written authorised procedures and manuals as directed by the Installation & Maintenance Supervisor.
- Provide technical advice to Network Operations, Space Operations, Network Incident Team and to external customers as required.
- Ensuring that any anomalies are brought to the attention of the Installation & Maintenance Supervisor and the Network Operations Team.
- Upholding the values and behaviours of Network Operations.
- Maintain engineering standards and practices in accordance with the relevant Paradigm Procedures and other associated documentation.
- Conduct installation/modification and decommissioning work as required.
- Providing telephone assistance and on-site support to the Operations team when on call.
- Deputising, when required for the Installation & Maintenance Supervisor on engineering matters.
What you'll need to do the role:
- HNC/D in Electronics or equivalent, or relevant experience level working within the satellite communication or data network industry.
- Experienced in Digital Satellite Communications.
- MS Office Tools.
- Capable of manipulating and understanding spreadsheets, databases and applications.
- Highly self-motivated with an aptitude to learn new skills.
- Full Driving Licence.
