As the Domain Expert, day to day you will be assigned across various programmes across the Maritime team, effectively working through the whole design process. Although, you will have no direct line reports, this role involves project leadership. There are various progression routes within the team, with the opportunity to go into a domain specialism such as a capability manager or functional manager. You will be involved in new techniques and sensors for future products, involved in really clever and innovative technologies. As the Domain Expert you will be the key transducer resource in the UK.
The domain specialism department plays a role in both the design of the current systems but also plays a large role in researching new techniques and sensors for future products. You will work alongside the systems, analyst, electrical and mechanical teams to design acoustic sensors based on transduction materials such as piezo-electric material for current and future products. Naturally, you would need to be able to help interpret customer and system requirements to derive specifications for transducers, which they will then work with the other departments to design and test suitable sensors. Activities will include requirements derivation, design, simulation, prototyping, verification and validation.
You will be expected to provide guidance and advice to junior members of staff and graduates as well as being able to support and substantiate their design solutions to a technical audience.
