About you

You will have extensive knowledge of working in a culturally diverse environment and have demonstrated capacity to engage persons of varying cultural backgrounds. You will also have proven skills in community development. You will hold considerable experience in planning, managing and conducting structured and progressive cooking programs and activities for adults. You will also be required to conduct a needs analysis and then produce specific programs based on the needs of your class. About the role

We are currently seeking experienced and qualified Activities Officers based at our Melbourne Immigration Transit Accommodation (MITA) site based in Broadmeadows. In this role you will be expected to actively contribute to running the structured and unstructured programs for adults and ensure excellent levels of service in the assigned responsibilities. This is a full-time role working Monday - Friday and is a key role in helping to maintain a positive and healthy community by providing recreational, education, life skills and leisure activities with a strong gardening focus. You will communicate effectively with staff and detainees regarding activities and events to ensure detainees can access the activities of their choice efficiently.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
  • Experience in conducting structured and unstructured programs for adults
  • Experience working with people from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds
  • Ability to contribute to team objectives / monthly schedule planning
  • Successful background in ensuring activities are meaningful
  • Ability to develop processes and encourage detainee feedback
  • Experience in planning appropriate resourcing for activities
  • Accuracy in maintaining records of all activities that take place
     

Requirements:

  • Cert III Level in an associated discipline such as Sports & Rec or learning & development
  • Obtain and maintain a current Australian Federal Police Clearance.
  • Hold and maintain HLTAID009 Provide CPR (previously HLTAID001) and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (previously HLTAID003) certificates with at least 6 months currency on the certificate.

 

This is a position of trust and responsibility and to support this we will conduct a thorough probity assessment as an essential selection component for this role. IE: Australian Federal Police Clearance, Current First Aid qualification, Working with Children check etc
