RAF Syerston, Newark on Trent, NG23 5NN (bordering Lincolnshire)

Full Time, Permanent (39 hours per week) 

Salary £34,962 on completion of probation period



Here at Serco we support the development of the RAF's next generation of aircrew, engineers and air traffic controllers through our unique contract with the Air Cadet organisation. We maintain and manage their fleet of gliders, and as our Aircraft Engineering Supervisor you'll play a key role in keeping these aircraft operational and in the air.


As an Aircraft Senior Supervisor you'll carry out the responsibilities and duties of Certifying Staff in accordance with Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Publication Regulatory Article 4801 and Part 145. You will lead and manage teams carrying out maintenance on Viking and other contract-related aircraft at RAF Syerston and other locations throughout the UK.


Main accountabilities:


  • Carry out the responsibilities and duties of Certifying Staff in accordance with Serco GMS Military Regulation Publication (MRP) Part 145 Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE), Military Aviation Authority (MAA) MRP Part 145 and Regulatory Article (RA) 4801.
  • Maintenance (Preventative, Corrective and Scheduled) and associated activities (i.e. Manpower, Tasks and Spares prioritisation) on Viking and other contract-related aircraft at RAF Syerston and 2 Flying Training School (FTS) locations/Volunteer Gliding Squadrons (VGSs)/detachments throughout the UK.
  • Management, supervision, participation in and control of aircraft activities including but not limited to; independent inspections, certify that an aircraft is ready for flight, ground movement and preparation for transportation.
  • Leadership, management, supervision and control of assigned maintenance teams.
  • Optimising output to meet the business needs and demonstrate commitment to Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement.
  • Carry out associated roles as directed by the business needs, such as but not limited to; Aircraft Manager (Depth-level Maintenance), Team Leader (Mobile), Line Controller, Building Custodian and Issue Centre Custodian.




What you need to do the role:


  • Be appropriately experienced and have completed, as a minimum, MOD Phase 2 technical training; or
  • Be appropriately experienced and have completed suitable civilian training (civilian contractors only).
  • Demonstrate having held authority or potential to sign for duplicate inspections (Civilian) or independent Inspection (Military).
  • Have a minimum of 5-years' experience in equivalent civilian industry or Armed Forces in a relevant trade group.
  • Possess good fault diagnosis skills, demonstrating a thorough understanding of aircraft systems.
  • Technically competent.
  • Hold full driving licence
  • Possess good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Be competent using IT.
