Your new role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Governance and Change Manager to join our team! The role can be flexibly based in one of our UK offices which include Bedford, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester or Guildford. You may be required to travel to other sites as part of your role. 

Governance and Controls is part of the Capital Portfolio Management team. We provide portfolio assurance to the National Highways Executive team, the Board and external stakeholders that the current and future National Highways capital investment programmes are deliverable, affordable and expected to realise commitments and strategic objectives. 

You will be responsible for promoting clear change control processes and carry out effective monitoring, planning, analysis and reporting of change across all areas of our capital investment portfolio. You will also support governance of the current Roads Investment Strategy, contribute to planning of future Roads Periods and Policy development and implementation. Working with internal teams to refine and optimise supporting processes, we are proud of our work in facilitating confident delivery of company commitments. 

What you’ll be leading on

  • Support the development / continuous improvement of the portfolio change control process, working with the business to ensure alignment with internal and external sponsorship and programme level processes.
  • Quality assure change requests and early warnings from the Project / Programme teams.
  • Expedite assurance and communication of process status and decisions on formally submitted early warnings and change requests.
  • Collaborate with Programme teams to drive quality, concise and consistent change requests.
  • Consult and support development and transition of Change Control monitoring / reporting process and data across to the CPM Enterprise Portfolio Management platform.

To be successful you’ll need

  • Experience operating an organisation wide Change Control Process.
  • Understanding of Portfolio and Programme Control functions and processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to influence and challenge senior leaders.
  • Strong collaborator to gain the involvement and engagement of a wide range of senior stakeholders.

A bit about us

The Capital Portfolio Management team is responsible for planning for future Road Periods and optimisation of the current Roads Investment Strategy. We carry out portfolio analytics and reporting to provide assurance to the Executive, the Board and external stakeholders that the current and future National Highways capital investment programmes are deliverable, affordable and expected to realise National Highways’ commitments and strategic objectives. The team assures adherence to portfolio policies, changes to the capital portfolio and will also provide assessment and practical recommendations to support management’s remedial decisions.
