Here at Serco we're looking for a Catering Assistant to join us at University Hospital Wishaw. Working as part of our Catering team, you will deliver of a range of food and beverages in line with Food Hygiene legislation and Serco policies and procedures to meet the nutritional needs of Patients, Staff, and users of Wishaw General Hospital services.
About the role
As the Catering Assistant, you will assist in the preparation, production, heating and reheating of food for patients, staff and visitors. Please be aware that this role involves working in all areas of the catering department including freezers, fridges and cold rooms and you will be expected to load and unload food and beverage trolleys in a range of locations. As well as catering duties, you will clean all areas of the catering department and equipment, and record and sign off the required records using paper or electronic equipment.
Administrative duties for this role include receipt and storage of supplies and receipt and issues of stock for use. You will also participate in stock taking, recording volumes as required, via appropriate system including electronically, notifying supervisors immediately of any concerns regarding quantities or quality issues of products.
The Catering Assistant will communicate with patients and record on paper or using electronic equipment. This includes Ipads, individual's menu selection, standard and diets, ensuring the selection is signed off by nursing staff, delivering this information to wards and catering.
Catering Team Leaders will be responsible for supervisory duties and allocate work to the Catering Assistants.
What you'll need to do the role
You will have knowledge of catering standards and related procedures, as well as strong communication skills and the ability to work with people as part of a team. You will be required to undertake on the job training and induction (this will generally take 4-6 weeks, depending on hours/days worked), to achieve full competency across a range of duties.
