This is shift work of 12 hours from 7am to 7pm with one hour break. Your shift pattern would allow you to have 5 days off, on your short week, but you would need to work 5 days on your long week. This is an ideal shift pattern for those, who prefer to have 5 days off on every second week:
Week 1 Monday work, Tuesday work, WEDNESDAY OFF, THURSDAY OFF, Friday work, Saturday work, Sunday work:
Week 2 MONDAY OFF, TUESDAY OFF, Wednesday work, Thursday work, FRIDAY OFF, SATURDAY OFF, SUNDAY OFF.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the team of 12 staff at Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre as a General Catering Assistant. The key purpose of the role is to support the Head Chefs and Chefs and assist in the daily production of food and provide and carry out catering services to the establishment. The role is a jumping stone to become a chef and offers a great chance to learn all kitchen hacks.
Whilst maintaining an exceptionally high standard of food production service and food hygiene you will prepare and cook varied and healthy menus for detainees to include special diets, special day and religious events. You'll provide hospitality requirements as ordered and assist the catering manager, head chef & catering supervisor in all aspects of running the kitchen.
You will keep preparation and work areas in a clean and hygienic condition as all times and the thorough cleaning of these areas, including equipment after each service and observe all statutory health and hygiene regulations. You will need good oral and written skills to report any hazards you may encounter in your place of work and complete incident reports, intelligence reports, Use of Force paperwork and accident report.

- Literacy and Numeracy Level 2
- Awareness of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP)
- Awareness of Allergen Control within Catering
