About the role

 

We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Catering Assistant with kitchen hand experience to join the team at our Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre (YHIDC) site based at Northam, WA. The successful candidate will report to the Catering Manager and will ensure the smooth and successful operation of the food service process, whilst complying with all food hygiene regulations. Good knife skills are essential as is the ability to perform general cleaning tasks. 

This role is physically demanding, and you will be required to constantly lift and bend, push and pull stock. This is a full time position working on a rotating roster which covers the hours of 9:00am - 8:30pm. You will work across a seven day roster including public holidays, working a 7 day fortnight.

 

About you

You have a positive attitude with a strong work ethic and good verbal and written communication skills. Your experience in following directions whilst working in a diverse fast paced environment allows you to be a good team player. You are confident in preparing and delivering food of high standard. Your dedication to nutritious food will enable you to provide well-presented food to detainees. You are a respectful and professional person who demonstrates exceptional moral values in everything you do. 

To be successful in this role you will have:

 

  • The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
  • Minimum Certificate II in Kitchen Operations (SIT20312) or equivalent qualification
  • Up to date Basic Food Hygiene / Food Safety Handling Certificate - SITXFSA001 Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety OR SITXFSA101 - Use hygienic practices for food safety OR SITXOHS002A - Follow workplace hygiene procedures
  • Demonstrated experience with basic kitchen processes and food preparation
  • Sound understanding of HACCP principles
  • Ensure all tasks are performed in a timely manner and comply with internal policy and legislative requirements
  • Understanding of OHS legislation and management of hazards
