Here at Serco, we're looking for a Chef to join our Retail Catering Department at University Hospital Southampton. This role will prepare, produce, and serve dishes required for service users ensuring a clean and safe working environment, adhering to Health & Safety working practices and food hygiene regulations.

 

The Retail Catering Department provides a total meal service to patients, staff and visitors on a breakfast, lunch, and supper service. The Department will cater for special dietary requirements and generate additional income through specialised theme days. The department also provides a range of hospitality to internal and external customers.

 

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Assist the Retail Catering Manager in planning of menus seeking input from the team.
  • Preparation of daily menu items for patients, staff, and public/visitors.
  • Production, presentation, and service of function menus as required.
  • Cleaning and sanitising of own work areas.
  • Daily organisation of chill and freezer storage ensuring cleanliness in these areas.
  • Correct and careful use of equipment used in daily food production.
  • Monitor and record temperatures of chills, freezers, and food in production and holding as per departmental procedures.
     

What you'll need to do the role:

  • Hold HNC level or equivalent relevant level of knowledge Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in catering.
  • Previous experience in a similar environment would be preferred.
  • Previous experience monitoring work standards and team working.
  • Knowledge of working with cleaning chemicals.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • HACCP, COSHH.
