About the role

We currently have a fulltime opportunity available for an experienced Chef from a high-volume food production background to join our core catering team based at the Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre (YHIDC) based in Northam, Western Australia. In this role you will be reporting to the Catering Manager and will assist in facilitating the preparation of the daily menu and running of the kitchen area. You will need availability to cover shifts during the hours of 9am - 8:30pm. This role is physically demanding, and you will be required to constantly lift, push and pull stock during your shift.

 

About you

In this position you will be responsible for food preparation and service for many people in detention. You will assist with training and development of personnel within the catering department, the presentation and display of food, including portion sizes. You will maintain food hygiene and safety practices in line with HACCP procedures. You will have the ability to step up and lead the team as required. Sound knowledge in cultural dietary requirements is an advantage and good computer skills are necessary to fulfil this role successfully. You are a respectful and professional person who demonstrates exceptional moral values in everything you do.

To be successful in this role you will have

  • The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
  • Certificate III or higher in Commercial Cookery or Trade Qualifications
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate / Food Safety Handling Certificate codes - SITXFSA001 Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety OR, SITXFSA101 - Use hygienic practices for food safety OR, SITXOHS002A - Follow workplace hygiene procedures
  • Ability to maintain HACCP Systems, reporting and documentation
  • Sound experience cooking in a bulk volume kitchen operation
  • Strong time management and prioritising skills
  • Ability to maintain an Australian Federal Police clearance
  • Flexibility in working hours
  • Moderate skill level with computers
