It’s an exciting time to join National Highways!

The Major Projects Commercial Delivery team are working across England to improve our strategic network and release economic capacity faster than at any other time in the last 50 years. With secure funding for 50 major construction projects in the next 10 years, we need are looking for passionate team players who can own and deliver successful outcomes with integrity. 

You will be joining a team of over 900 delivery professionals in programmes that are set to change highways construction, influencing the infrastructure market to drive improved productivity, reduce carbon and deliver increased digital capability.

We are looking for a Commercial Manager to join our team, where you will aid excellence in commercial delivery and management, procurement strategy, funding application, scheme budget management, contract administration and commercial dispute avoidance.

This role can be flexibly based at one of our UK offices. We have a flexible hybrid working approach, meaning the role will be a combination of office/site attendance/agile home working, We can offer full time/part time/job share opportunities. 

What you’ll be leading on

Contributing to balanced, efficient, continually improving delivery of immediate defined scheme outcomes.
Support professional advice, identifying needs, understanding priorities for, and threats to, scheme success, defining mitigation to continually improve delivery.
Contribute to a scheme C&P strategy(s) translating objectives from the business plan to meet the scheme goals and objectives.
Key in-scheme communication to and from the commercial and procurement directorate, supporting a culture of continuous improvement.
Develop positive commercial relationships with external stakeholders to a scheme.
Contribute to the administration of, when required by a scheme, the commercial management of PFI, Financial and Legal support to a scheme.

To be successful you’ll need

  • Relevant professional qualification or working towards, RICS, ICE or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of NEC forms of contract. Experience of tendering and procurement using, as a minimum, NEC forms of contract.
  • Able to translate, and deliver at pace, regional programme commercial priorities, influencing any direct managed team, clear outcome-focused objectives.
  • Experience to influence others to perform while working safely and effectively aligned around common goals
  • Experience to contribute to the effective selection of the option most likely to mitigate commercial threats and realise opportunities to achieve predictable and sustainable development.
