Our Justice and Immigration division provides essential services across our Custodial, Immigration, Community and Housing services.

Serco`s Prisoner Escort and Custody Services (PECS) contract for Kent and the East of England makes a critical contribution to the Criminal Justice System in England and Wales, by ensuring the safe, secure and decent transport of prisoners between courts and their associated prisons and police stations.


Overview of Role

You will be required to deputise as required for the Court Custody Manager (CCM) to agreed performance objectives, focusing on prisoner welfare while complying with all security and operational procedures. The position will focus day to day on the smooth running of the court.

Ensure staff are efficiently deployed within the court area and rotated to ensure flexibility within the workforce. Typical duties could include;
- Hold sickness return to work interviews for the teams.
- Adhere to and assist in the development of Operational Serco Health and Safety Policies and procedures
- Contribute to and changes initiatives in order to continuously improve services

You will be pivotal in creating a positive working environment dealing effectively with issues and problems providing support and guidance to the team as appropriate. Promoting themes of decency, courtesy and consideration when managing prisoners will be key requirements of this role.

The nature of this environment means that we are governed by policy and procedure and it is the role of the Court Custody Manager to ensure that we remain compliant with all rules, regulations, laws and all other guidelines.

About You

Due to the nature of this role previous supervisory experience is preferred as the court environment can be challenging, demanding and fast paced.  You will need to be able to evidence strong verbal and written communication skills, strong organisational skills and good interpersonal skills.

This role requires you to have high levels of emotional resilience, flexibility, understanding as well as assertiveness, the ability to cope with pressure and the ability to exercise authority. You will be computer literate with good report writing skills.  To be considered for this role your career history must evidence knowledge of a custodial/ secure transport environment.


Specific Requirements

 

  • This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office
  • Working flexibly over a 6 day period (Monday to Saturday) with a willingness and ability to travel within the UK where required including off site meetings, sometimes necessitating overnight stays
