Here at Serco we are looking for a Custodial Operations Manager to join us at HMP Fosse Way. The position of Custodial Operations Manager (COM) is responsible for the management of staff, overseeing the management of prisoners, and coordinating and monitoring of the operations of all areas within the prison. The role is also critical in leading staff by example to ensure all prisoners are treated respectfully and humanely whilst ensuring that staff are fully aware of their accountabilities in delivering a safe, secure and rehabilitative environment.

 

As Manager you are responsible for driving Serco's Governing Principles, ensuring that your area of managerial responsibility functions efficiently and effectively, operating within the bounds of all local and national orders, rules and regulations and expectations that members of the public would have of yourself and Serco.

 

 

Some of the responsibilities of the COM are as follows:

 

  • Contribute to managing the security of the Prison in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Be responsible for the maintenance of a safe, secure and hygienic working environment.
  • Oversee and be accountable for the provision of Key Working to all prisoners.  There is a requirement for all prisoners to have weekly/fortnightly allocated Keyworker time.
  • Oversee and be accountable for the provision of services to prisoners, including program, employment and activities, to encourage an environment of positive interaction between staff and prisoners.
  • Coordinate and oversee the management of prisoner accommodation areas, including the health, safety and welfare of prisoners, staff and members of the general public in accordance with Prison policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and encourage a quality regime for prisoners within all areas, consistent with efficient use of available staff resources.
  • To be responsible for the domestic management of your area, including cleaning, supplies, furniture, bedding, clothing, painting and general state on maintenance/repair.
  • That all prisoner, staff and visitor areas (including accommodation) are clean, tidy, secure and in a good state of repair.
  • To manage the Care & Separation (CSU) in line with all residential units together with the additional rules, orders and policies relevant to the segregation of prisoners.
  • To manage Visits in line with baselines provided by relevant rules, orders and policies.
  • To manage the Security and Operations departments in line with baselines provided by relevant rules, orders and policies.
  • To manage Reception in line with baselines provided by relevant rules, orders and policies.
  • To ensure that your (and your staff) ACCT responsibilities are fully met.
  • Contribute to the delivery and achievement of all performance measures, contract outcomes and locally agreed targets including KPI's/CDIs.

 

 

What you will need to do the role

 

Relevant people management qualification is desirable. Key Worker trained. Five Minute intervention Trained. Completion of the PCO Portfolio is essential.
