Would you like the opportunity to join a growing part of Maritime Submarines and work on interesting and dynamic projects, influencing the design, development and supply of leading complex systems across our latest submarine platforms? We currently have a number of vacancies within our Security Engineering Teams - across multiple locations, Weymouth, Frimley or Filton.
As a Cyber Security Engineer you will be a focal point for security and information risk matters and will apply your subject matter expertise and experience to ensure that submarine systems and products are delivered and can be managed and supported through-life. You will be supporting the appropriate Delegated Technical Authority (DTA) and/or Design Authority (DA) to ensure the delivered solutions meet the specified contractual and regulatory requirements and can be operated securely, correctly and safely. You will also provide subject matter expertise and advice to other functional and capability areas to support overall project delivery and performance.
This is fantastic opportunity to be part of the Integrated Combat Systems area of Maritime Submarines, which designs, builds, integrates and supports all the Submarine Combat Systems in the UK fleet. Your main responsibilities will involve:
Your levels of responsibilities will depend on your skills and experience; however you will be able to identify and support engineering activities in your area of responsibility, understand and report on programme status and support the implementation of key security practices of which supports the overall Submarine capability that plays a critical role in our nation's defence.
Providing advice on Information System (Product) Security matters for programmes to Engineering Managers and Technical Authorities as required to internal and external customers
Contributing and influencing development and maintenance of Product Security (PSEC) strategies, policies, guidance and awareness
Gaining sufficient understanding of a system, its concept of use and architectures provide accurate assessments of a product security threats, potential avenues of attack, and or compliance to standards and best practice
Ensuring that Product Security analysis of a project, system or equipment, is delivered and is managed using recognised risk analysis techniques and documentation
Present risks and proposed controls to internal and external stakeholders, to achieve agreement and buy-in
Represent the Product Security group at Design Reviews and working groups to ensure that Product Security is appropriately considered at each stage of the design lifecycle
Support the management and planning of specialist activities and work packages and managing PSEC tools and applications.
Your skills and qualifications :
Strong background in IT and information systems, architectures, and or applications development, implementation and through life management
Knowledge of configuration control and change
Understanding of the engineering lifecycle phase
Awareness of Safety Health and Environment matters
Previous Technical leadership and coaching/mentoring others.
Strong Knowledge of Information/IT Security activities within the defence sector, or closely linked domain (e.g. JSPs, SCIDA, IS1&2, Standards, RMADS)
Ideally you will have a recognised Cyber Security Qualification (CISSP, CISM, CCP, and CEH) and/or ICT or Information System Qualifications (e.g. ITIL, CCNP)
MSc or BSc in computer science, technology or security subject
Membership of Professional Body (e.g. IET, ISC2. BCS, )
Project Management Qualification (PMP, PRINCE)

Maritime - Submarines
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world's most complex engineering challenges.
