Serco Defence are recruiting for a Day Maintenance Electrician to work as a key member of a dedicated operations and maintenance team. This is a permanent position based at RAF Fylingdales, North Yorkshire, offering employment in a unique engineering environment which may require occasional travel for training and operational support at other Serco sites.  

 

This position is a day working position primarily operating, maintaining, and repairing the Solid State Phased Array Radar (SSPAR) facilities equipment, HV/LV electrical distribution system and Building Management System (BMS). This position requires an 18th edition wiring regulations qualification, experience in inspecting and testing and thorough knowledge of HV/LV electrical systems. You will also need experience working on HVAC, mechanical systems, distributed control systems with electronics, compressors, and fire alarm panels.

 

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Electrical Technician for high and low voltage systems. Performing planned maintenance activities and conducting required corrective maintenance during unforeseen events.
  • Maintenance and repair of all facilities plant within the SSPAR building via the Facilities Monitoring System (FMS).
  • Working within a Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) maintenance activities on all items of plant and maintaining a computerised record of activities and plant history.
  • Working with engineering sub-contractors when required.
  • Ensuring compliance with appropriate regulations and legislation including site-specific procedures.
  • Occasional shift work depending on operational requirement.

 

What you'll need to do the role: 

We are looking for someone with a mechanical/electrical background who is engaging, reliable, determined, and hardworking, and has an interest in the engineering industry. Successful applicants must be self-motivated to constantly learn and develop new skills whilst having a flexible attitude towards work, occasionally working outdoors in various weather conditions and able to climb ladders and work at height.  

 

Due to the complexity of this role, a HNC or equivalent in a suitable engineering discipline in electrical systems coupled with related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

 

It is desirable that candidates possess experience in electrical installation and electrical distribution systems, knowledge of fire alarm systems, compressors and compressor maintenance, and experience within basic mechanical skills and maintenance.

 

Site familiarisation and on-the-job training will be provided at RAF Fylingdales. Required technical training will be also conducted at RAF Fylingdales but will be reliant on the employed individual possessing fundamental knowledge and capability in engineering, mathematics, and science. 

 

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a high level of written and spoken English. 

 

Due to the nature of our work, the successful candidate must be able to pass SC clearance, which includes a criminal records check. Additionally, as the role is related to UK Defence, only UK nationals can be considered for the role as directed by the MOD.
