This is a technical role relating to the Electronic aspects of hardware design.

The Role Holder will :-

• Generate and/or support electronic design solutions for both new products and technology insertions into legacy products.
• Generate and/or support detailed designs from concept to completion.
• Participate in all aspects of board and unit-level designs and including their interfaces with higher levels

Core Duties

The role holder will undertake some or all of the following tasks :-

• Detailed electronic circuit design including component selection, evaluation, simulation, schematic capture, and liaising with PCB design teams.
• Specification of bespoke procured hardware.
• Design verification using a combination of simulation, analysis, and test techniques, including support to EMC test houses and customer installations.
• Generate design documentation and technical reports.
• Interfacing with related disciplines.
• Assist the development of higher level system designs.
• Assist the development of technical requirement specifications
• Support system integration activities

The role holder will have a degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering or strongly related subject, and have experience in one or more of the following areas :-

• Generating component level electronic designs for introduction into volume production.
• Digital design including processor interfacing, memory devices, PLD interfacing, UARTs, SPI, I2C, Ethernet etc.
• ADC/DAC devices and techniques
• Analogue design including op-amps, transistor-level design, control loops and and low noise techniques.
• High power techniques.
• Design proving, integration, and defect resolution.
• Gathering of evidence to support acceptance, fitness for purpose, legislative requirements, and safety. Business Expertise (Requirements of the position for knowledge and expertise about the business rather than the technical expertise)

The role holder:

• Will have a good understanding of how own activities integrate into the activities of a design team plus an understanding of the work of the design team.
• Will have a good understanding of how own design team integrates with other parts of the product design
• Will have an awareness of how cost and timescale constraints may impact business performance Leadership (Requirements of the position for providing leadership and guidance to others)

The role holder:

• Is required to make judgements based on own knowledge and experience of similar situations.
• Must assess the viability and applicability of solutions, evaluates alternatives based on an understanding of common or previous solutions to problems and analysis of factual information.
• The role holder is responsible for the quality and timely delivery of own work. The job has a direct impact on the quality of the overall solution provided by the team. Area of Impact (Business area impacted Delivery/Functional)
• Requires good communication and diplomacy skills.
• Must understand detailed technical instructions and be able to communicate complex technical information to others.
