Job type: Permanent, full-time

Working Hours: 40 hours per week. Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm

Serco operate the West Midlands Cycle Hire and WM e-Scooter scheme on behalf of Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) and the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). We operate 1500 bikes and eBikes and now the e-Scooters within the region.

As the e-Scooter Mechanic, you will be responsible for carrying out repairs, services, quality control and any other e-Scooter related tasks at our dedicated Workshop, ensuring the correct volume of e-Scooters are available to the public for hire and safe to use. To achieve this, you must have the correct competencies to become an expert in maintaining the e-Scooters. Experience in working with e-Scooters is not essential, although a mechanical background is desirable. We have a team of experienced mechanics who will train you to become efficient  in working with the e-Scooters and completing tasks quickly and to a safe standard. The role will provide great variety as when needed you will also be required to help the servicing and repair of our bikes and e-bikes as well.

This is a role that is vital to the success of the e-Scooter Scheme, and we are looking for candidates who are reliable, hard-working and take great pride in their work and are committed to being great ambassadors for our service. Our Mechanics directly contribute to making the West Midlands a greener place to live and visit and are responsible for making sure our e-Scooters are safe for all to use, so it is important that you are able to take that responsibility seriously.

This role directly impacts the number of roadworthy e-Scooters that are available for service users across the West Midlands.

You won't be doing this alone either. Our team is made up of professional, friendly, and supportive teammates, including managers who began their careers with Serco as Mechanics who now hold Team Leader, Supervisor, Operations Manager and Contract Manager titles.

We are dedicated to the ongoing development and career progression of our Mechanics, with outstanding training opportunities made available to you, along with the chance to undertake additional qualifications. These include, but are not limited to, Health & Safety courses, Team Leader and Management training and a supportive management team who will provide guidance and advice to ensure you achieve all that you want to with Serco.

What do I need to do the role?

To be considered for a position within our team, you should have excellent e-Scooter Maintenance knowledge, or working experience as a mechanic. You must be willing to undertake formal training on both bikes and e-Scooters as part of your probation period should you be successful.

The ideal candidate will also be enthusiastic and dedicated, as well as be trustworthy, reliable, and flexible, have good problem resolution skills, be numerate and literate and have experience of working with IT software.

If you feel you meet the above criteria, please apply today, as applications will be reviewed as they come in and appointments made for successful candidates as soon as possible.
