Serco are currently recruiting for a Facilities Manager for the International Fire Training Collage in Darlington.


Key Purpose

The key purpose of the role is to Ensure the IFTC site is maintained in line with statutory and Serco requirements. Manage the repairs and maintenance budget. Engage with contractors for works not delivered by the in-house team.  




Main duties & responsibilities:


  • Management and supervision of PPM (internal and external including grounds maintenance) and remedial works undertaken by in-house staff and sub-contractors to meet statutory and internal standards.
  • Manage the facilities department budget and implement cost and operating improvements.
  • Implement corrective actions identified in second- and third-party audits and fire risk assessments.
  • Ensuring timesheets, labour, materials, completion certificates and plant records are completed.
  • The amalgamation of various existing sub-contractors where they deliver cost savings and operational improvements to the business
  • Manage pricing, tendering and accounts payable.
  • Maintain the business asset list.
  • Recruit facilities staff and conduct employee performance reviews.
  • Ensure facilities staff operate to Serco standards (eg CBTs, health and safety procedures and the maintenance of relevant records.
  • Prepare and review risk assessments and method statements.
  • Prepare and update work procedures.
  • Advise on future infrastructure investment requirements to maintain compliant, customer-focussed delivery of service.
  • Undertake maintenance and repair work directly.
  • Work to Serco permit, lockout/isolation procedures
  • Undertake PAT testing and maintain records of assets

What I need to do the job?



  • Time served Electrician
  • City & Guilds or NVQ level 3 in electrical installation work
  • City & Guilds 2391 Test and Inspection
  • City & Guilds 18th Edition (Electrical Regulations)
  • Willing to undergo training as the Serco Electrical Authorised Person (AP)
  • Post qualification experience in a supervisory role.
  • Previous experience of operation of multi-site PPM schedules and maintenance operations.
  • Good IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel Access, Outlook)
  • Good leadership skills
