Fuels Operative (Training Providing)

At RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, Serco has been providing support services since 1997.  Serco proudly support the RAF and MoD, supplying around 20 different services onsite, from engine and aircraft maintenance, to fuelling and ground control services.

 

Serco are currently recruiting a Fuels Operative to join the existing team at RAF Brize Norton. The purpose of the role will be to work within the Serco Fuels and Lubricants team, you will help to deliver a service that operates on a 24/7/365 basis.

 

Main Accountabilities (Trainee):

 

  • Undertake fuels assurance and governance checks to assure fuel quality. Facilitate and action husbandry in all areas.
  • Refuelling and defueling tasks for all RAF Brize Norton based aircraft, visiting aircraft and road tankers.
  • Tank to tank transfer of fuel and the undertaking of Fuel Movement Support activity.

 

 

Main Accountabilities (Trained):

 

  • Undertake activity in relation to quality of all fuel and associated equipment, to include fuel dips, fuel sampling, hose checks and fuel assurance checks in accordance with policy.
  • Undertake transfer and movement of fuel utilising manual valve sequencing and/or automated valves.
  • Undertake refuelling and defueling of aircraft using Hydrant Fuel Delivery Vehicle (HFDV).
  • Provide immediate emergency response in the event of a spillage.
  • Utilise BFIS to account for all fuelling events.
  • Provide immediate response to fuel contamination.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations.
  • Undertake the management, safe operation, and the responsibilities of RAF Brize Norton's (and Parented Units) infrastructure.
  • Maintain equipment, to include reporting of any faults.
  • Provide out of hours cover, to include some ground fuels tasking.
  • Undertake control, co-ordination, and receipt of Fuel and Lubricant products including de-icing products.
  • Undertake management, co-ordination, and provision of packed stocks.
  • Undertake management, storage, and control of RAF Brize Norton's gas cylinders and associated compounds.
  • Undertake co-ordination and facilitation of waste products with internal and external agencies as required.

 

 

What you'll need to do the role:

 

This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who wants to make a difference supporting the UK Armed Forces. For those who have not worked within a Fuels Infrastructure, training can be delivered by the onsite Trade and Standards Section. Due to the nature of the role, a full UK Driving license will be required, as well as the correct colour perception to gain a permit for Airfield Driving.

 

A C1 licence is required to complete this role (training may be provided to the right candidate). 

 

 

Trainee Tank Cleaner

Serco Marine Services - Portsmouth

Full time, 48 hours, permanent

£24,773 + Benefits 

 

 

Please note: This role will suit someone interested in becoming a fully trained and qualified Tank Cleaner. The position will offer on the job training so that you can meet all necessary qualifications with a generous pay increase as you progress within the role. This will take a maximum of 24 months for full completion of training. The salary will increase in year one to £27,588 and will then rise to £30,404 in year two - once fully trained and qualified.

 

Serco are currently recruiting for a Trainee Tank Cleaner to join our exisiting team at HMNB Portsmouth. The purpose of this role is to empty and clean various storage tanks and ships' bilges. You will also eventually be required to drive, operate and ensure roadworthiness of 3000 and 4000gal Vacuum bowser lorries in support of Marine Services contract.

 

 

Main Accountabilities:

 

  • Emptying and cleaning of tanks as part of a team which may contain Diesel Oil, lubricating oil, fresh water, salt water ballast, grey water, Aviation fuel, sewage treatment plants/holding tanks and ships bilges.
  • Rig and recover cleaning gear.
  • Assist in other areas of the business as directed by the Operations Department.
  • Emergency equipment and procedures and location and use of firefighting equipment.
  • To drive and operate vacuum bowsers and maintain associated records to comply with current legislation.
  • To assist the Transport Manager as required.
  • To work as part of a team to maintain, deploy and recover Oil Pollution equipment.

 

 

 

What you'll need to do the role:

 

  • Some experience of working within confined spaces (Strongly desirable)
  • Full CLEAN UK Driving Licence
  • Computer Literate
  • Strong English language skills
  • Due to the nature of the job - There is a legal requirement to be over the age of 18
  • MUST have a UK Passport and be eligible to work in the UK
  • Must also be physically fit due to the demanding nature of the role

 

 

Timelines of training:

 

Year one: successful completion of necessary courses to achieve fully qualified tank cleaner status - Confined space entry, confined space rescue, water jetting licence, first aid, rope handling

Year two: Training for HGV Class 1 (C + E), ADR, gas tester (AGT1), oil spill response

 

Skills, experience and qualifications that you will gain at completion of training:

  • Working in Confined spaces
  • Jet Washer Safety Awareness Course (Approved WJA).
  • Surface Preparation and Cleaning Application Course (Approved WJA).
  • ENG 1.
  • HGV Drivers Medical
  • C + E HGV (Class 1) clean driving licence
  • Valid Drivers CPC
  • ADR certificated. (Tankers and liquid fuels)
  • Knowledge and use of Digital Tachographs
  • Health and safety Awareness.
  • Manual Handling.
  • Authorised Gas Tester (AGT1)
  • Oil Pollution Equipment awareness training.
