Serco are recruiting for a Future Capability Officer to join the Defence Engineering & Asset Management (EAM) team. This is offered on a hybrid-based role and can be located in either our Portsmouth or Hook offices. This brand-new role will support the Head of Future Capability (HoFC) in the identification and delivery of organic growth through existing contracts and frameworks across the EAM function.
The role will also monitor and facilitate opportunities in new frameworks and other commercial mechanisms for delivering new capability. The role will assist the HoFC bring together an aligned approach across Maritime, Aviation and Space and Security working closely with Contract and Operational teams. Under the direction of the HoFC, the role holder will also work in conjunction with Growth and Bidding to manage the identification of new work in alignment with the strategy across EAM.
Principally the role will coordinate all Future Capability activity including management reporting, governance, activity, and opportunity tracking, and engaging with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the business. They will support the delivery of an integrated approach to organic growth across EAM.
Main Accountabilities:
Winning Good Business:
- To support and administer organic opportunities for the relevant pipeline from prospect, and to walk this into Serco's bidding process, managing stakeholder relationships as required/appropriate.
- To be the focal point of contact for matters relating to organic bidding activity and solutions across EAM, referring to the Head of FC as required.
- Understand the stakeholder landscape, evaluate relative strengths to inform capture plans, pricing models and decisions for organic propositions.
- To Manage/administer Organic activity for EAM, you will ensure that all internal and external stakeholders are informed and kept updated on relevant plans.
- To support the development of a network of impactful relationships across the MOD and our partners, to identify new organic business development opportunities.
- To take responsibility for stakeholder mapping and engagement within the FC EAM environment.

Executing Brilliantly:
- To support the Head of FC and Contract Managers/Directors to ensure organic opportunities are maximised in line with Business Unit expectations.
- To assist in capturing business organic development strategies and plans, that will achieve short term profitable growth, with a view to developing longer term capability.
- Contribute to capture plans for all organic and framework deals and that handover plans to the relevant bidding teams (where appropriate) are clear, concise, and fully understood in order to aid decision making.
- Capture, analyse and manage BD related management information including operational resourcing, bid costs, investment returns and pipeline coverage for organic growth forecasts.
- Support the Growth Team to run black hats and challenge the operational robustness of all bids to be submitted by the BU including appropriate commercial and financial challenges.
- Implement and adhere to Serco's agreed common SMS processes and systems to maximise value for Serco and our customers.
- Manage information reporting requirements and dashboards in line with the Portfolio Governance approach of EAM.
- Ensure that any risks identified are managed in accordance with Serco's processes and procedures.
- Capture organic growth opportunities and plans for the relevant capabilities.
- Administer and support customer engagements where organic opportunity is expected including soft market testing, workshops, briefings, and opportunity assessments.
Profitable & Sustainable:
- Ensuring that the administration and management of EAM relevant organic business development plans are in place to support overall organic growth for EAM are aligned to Defence strategy commitments.
- To work closely with commercial and financial key stakeholders to ensure deadlines are met and adaptations to the plan are communicated and understood by all.
What you'll need to do the role:
Knowledge:
- Demonstrates an awareness of the EAM landscape, particularly Defence Customers, and a clear understanding of how to leverage support from other departments and functions (i.e., finance, operations, business development, HR and communications).
- Knowledge and experience of supporting business opportunities in a Defence setting and evidence of understanding and delivering for the customer (MOD/Authority).
Skills:
- A track record of delivering at pace and in complex or demanding environments.
- evidence of building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external customers, key business stakeholders, and can navigate their way around matrix relationships.
- An articulate, strong relationship builder with the ability to influence at all levels.
- A Team player and self-starter.
- Excellent analytical skills with ability to assimilate information quickly and communicate key messages simply and effectively to the business to aid decision making.
- Sound thinker with the ability to operate with a hands-on, pragmatic approach when required.
- Strongly values led individual.
Experience:
- Experience of proactively engaging customers to improve relationships for the long-term and continue to drive value.
- Ability to work to tight timelines.
- Ability to work in highly complex organisations.
