Here at Serco, we are looking for a General Hand to join our technical team in Devonport. The key purpose of this role is to support all aspects of Serco's Devonport Base Maintenance Team, including refits at Morice Yard, mainly but not exclusively prepping and painting. This is a shore-based position as part of the established technical repair and maintenance team.

Main responsibilities of this role include:

• Form part of the base paint team, responsible for prepping and painting of Serco's vessels and barges.
• Assist other members of the shore side maintenance team with their activities as may be required.
• Assist operations with tank cleaning operations.
• Carry out all duties assigned in a safe manner, observing all statutory regulations and the local regulations which may be in force.
• Assist with slipping and un-slipping of vessels and barges.

What you'll need to do the role:

• Good interpersonal skills.
• Ability to self-motivate, use own initiative and work to tight timescales.
• Ability to prioritise workload, work in a logical and methodological manner.
• Flexible and proactive with a commitment to customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.
• Experience of working on vessels and familiar with their layouts.
• A good understanding of tank entry procedures and the risks involved.
• Effective communication skills, both in writing and orally.
