Habitat Restoration & Conservation Worker
Are you looking for a practical, hands-on, outdoor based conservation position? OpenSpace is an Ecological and Conservation Contracting company looking for a Habitat Restoration & Conservation Worker to work within our Habitat & Conservation Contracting Team undertaking practical habitat restoration, conservation management, wildlife and landscape projects throughout the North of England and Scotland.
Projects include (but not restricted to), peatland restoration, woodland management, grassland restoration, wildflower seed harvesting, river management, reedbed/wetland creation, tree work, landscaping, community wildlife projects & optional wildlife surveys.
To deliver these projects you will be required to undertake chainsaw work, strimming, ATV driving, tractor driving, seed harvesting, wood-chipping, spraying (herbicides), grass cutting, gates/fencing, landscaping and general habitat/estate work.
The successful candidate will have hands on experience in a range of land management practices for nature conservation and ideally will hold a countryside, environmental or conservation qualification. They must be willing to work outdoors in all weathers and able to work in physically demanding environments due to the site conditions.
Personable and approachable, you will be comfortable meeting with farmers, landowners and conservation agencies. You will need to be an effective communicator, able to work independently and as part of the team and know when to take the initiative and be able to meet deadlines. A full driver's license is essential and also NPTC Chainsaw CS30 and CS31.
