Already a major player in delivering apprenticeships to the education sector, we are looking to grow our apprenticeship and provision and leverage our expertise in the funded training sector to become a partner to public sector employers. Alongside this, we have a full pipeline of deals to work on and want to build a robust skills and training delivery capability that will allow us to support major deals across the whole of Serco UK&E, from working for the MoD to the MoJ.

An Amazing opportunity has arisen for a Head of Curriculum development to join Serco's ever expanding Skills network and take it to another level and make Serco a Major player in this area. tHe Head of curriculum development will Lead the curriculum development process and team within the Serco Skills business.

To work closely with colleagues in the Skills unit (e.g. Delivery, Quality and Continuous Improvement and EdTech) to develop competitive, engaging, high quality and compliant materials aligned to the Skills unit's strategic plan. This is regarded as a critical source of sustainable competitive advantage to support the development of a sustainable Skills business. Therefore, the role holder must build the capabilities (people, processes, and systems) to ensure the on-going development of consistently high-quality curricula. 

 

Key accountabilities

  • Leadership of the curricula development and maintenance process, systems and teams within the Skills unit to achieve the highest levels of competitive and compliant materials to enable high quality teaching
  • Ensure that all curricula are developed and maintained to be compliant with the requirement of the relevant regulators and awarding bodies.
  • To work with colleagues on the Skills SMT in developing the culture, systems, processes and skills necessary to ensure that curricula development is aligned with the broader Skills strategy.
  • Working with colleagues in Delivery, EdTech and Quality and Continuous Improvement to lead in the specification and on-going development of the learning delivery systems and processes
  • Be a subject matter expert on curricula development and delivery techniques within an adult education context, focusing on future innovation and challenges and ensuring Serco is well placed to continue to grow, compliantly and competitively, within this market
  • Represent the Skills unit with stakeholders in order to better understand current and future developments and to align Serco's capabilities accordingly
  • Build a culture of trust and information sharing within the team and within Serco more broadly so that excellent relationships are built, and experience leveraged across Serco globally
  • Ensure strong succession and development of talent within the Curriculum Development

 

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications

  • Experience of leading the development and maintenance of the curricula workstreams in an adult training provider, ideally covering at least some of the target subjects of Leadership and Management, Digital, Health and Care and Education, from levels 2-7.
  • Ideally, experience at developing curricula for both face to face and remotely using up to date training techniques, e.g. gamification, video, social media, virtual reality and 3D modelling
  • Significant experience and a strong track record at a senior management level in adult education
  • Demonstrable track record in building, leading and retaining teams of excellent talent
  • A recognised & respected leader with a strong network of stakeholders, content providers, regulators and partners in adult training
  • Ideally, experience of an OFSTED full inspection with a track record of achieving grade 2 or higher
  • Excellent people leadership skills. Must be skilled in communicating, cross cultural management, organisational culture development and motivating staff
  • Politically incisive in communicating effectively with colleagues, customers, sector stakeholders, partners and external bodies as relevant
  • Demonstrates an impeccable track record of health, safety and compliance leadership
