Here at Serco, we are seeking a dynamic and accomplished individual to join our Defence Business Unit (BU) as the Head of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment. This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to shape and influence the strategic direction of QHSE practices within the Defence BU, while playing a pivotal role in Serco's commitment to delivering exceptional services.

 

 

As part of this you'll:

 

 

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership in QHSE across the entire Defence Business Unit, aligning with the unit's vision, goals and strategies
  • QHSE Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive QHSE strategy to drive continuous improvement in performance, reduce injury and incident rates and align with the business strategy
  • Performance Targets: Own the delivery of QHSE targets, ensuring successful implementation of the business strategy and a culture of high-quality service provision
  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop a team of QHSE Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure the strategy is embraced and objectives are met
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with the Business Unit MD and senior leadership team to advise on QHSE strategy, fostering alignment with stakeholders to achieve strategy goals
  • External Representation: Represent Serco's commitment to QHSE excellence to customers, stakeholders and the wider community
  • HSE Expertise: Act as a second-in-command to the UK&E Divisional QHSE Director for HSE matters across the UK business

 


What you'll need to do the role:


 

  • Membership: Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health; CMIOSH
  • Qualifications: NVQ/Diploma or Degree qualified in relevant field. Health and Safety Level 5 or above
  • Investigative Skills: Experience coordinating independent investigations, evidence gathering, resolution and reporting
  • Leadership: Energetic, engaging style with strong influence and motivation skills to drive best practice
  • Legislation Knowledge: Detailed understanding of current and impending Safety, Health, Environment, and Security legislation and standards
  • Problem-Solving: Proven ability to address issues proactively with a measured approach
  • Strategic Vision: Demonstrated ability to design and implement strategies, frameworks, policies, standards, and KPIs
  • Stakeholder Management: Excellent relationship building, stakeholder management, and communication skills
  • Analytical: Strong analytical skills to simplify complex information for informed decision-making
  • Resilience: Self-aware and resilient, capable of navigating challenges effectively
  • Communication: Strong communication skills, from staff to executive level
  • Decision-Making: Excellent judgment and decision-making capabilities
  • Commercial Acumen: Financially aware with strategy development and execution capability
  • SC clearance or the ability to achieve it
