We are recruiting for a newly appointed role within our Justice & Immigration (J&I) business unit.

 

As the Head of Training, you will be responsible for defining the strategic direction for training across our J & I estate. This includes overseeing all training across our custodial, immigration, court & escorting and electronic monitoring services. Your role is to ensure that operational training equips our colleagues with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to excel in such environments. It will reflect our key capabilities and zero harm culture supporting all our colleagues to think safe, work safe and get home safe.

 

The role will focus on leading, managing and developing a dedicated team of training professionals whose accountability will incorporate learning design, delivery and administration for a range of different programmes, regulatory training and core curriculum. This role's initial key focus will be to outline and develop initial training courses and core curriculum for our Custody, Detention and Escort officer roles standardising best practice across the estate to deliver high quality learning programmes. 

 

Collaboration with operational leaders is integral as you work together to execute the training strategy that aligns with the goals of Justice and Immigration and the broader business strategy of Serco.

 

Your responsibilities will also extend to close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, such as peers, management, outside agencies, and key customers. This collaborative approach will assist in identifying current and future training needs. In addition, you will actively participate in the design of new bid proposals, the implementation of programs, and the mobilisation of new contracts.

You will lead the design, delivery and evolution of J & I training portfolios, ensuring the most effective and impactful delivery channels are deployed.

 

This roles sits within Support Services and you will manage a team of Training Business Partners and develop strong, collaborative relationships with external stakeholders including HMPPS, Home Office and MOJ to ensure you can deliver on accountabilities such as:

 

  • Driving and supporting apprenticeship programs to bolster our apprenticeship strategy, thereby optimising levy expenditure within the group.
  • Lead an annual planning, design, delivery, and evaluation process to maintain and up to date, relevant L&D portfolio
  • Lead on collation of training needs analysis across Justice and Immigration and utilise this to inform training skill gaps and needs
  • Work with the wider Learning & Development community and national peer networks to assist cultural and business transformation as required.

 

What you'll need to do the role

 

This is a multifaceted role that encompasses the delivery of the J&I occupational learning portfolio, which spans a wide array of topics and subjects. Taking ownership of your own workload, whilst delivering high-quality, innovative, content that is still consistent with our brand guidelines is important in this role.  As is being able to challenge ways of working and thoughts whilst providing an upbeat and team focussed support.

 

  • You must have demonstrable work experience in a custodial and/or immigration environment
  • Experience within learning and development at management level
  • Knowledge of C & R advantageous 

 

Finally, previous Learning & Development management experience at Senior Management level and a thorough understanding of the Apprenticeship Levy.
