Serco are currently recruiting for a HGV Mechanic for the International Fire Training Centre in Darlington. The key purpose of the role is to ensure the IFTC fleet is maintained whilst always adhering to procedures and processes.

 

 

Main duties & responsibilities:

 

  • Undertake maintenance and repair work directly on all vehicles within the fleet.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance and routine servicing in accordance with VOSA and manufacturers recommendations.
  • Report defects or concerns to management.
  • Trouble shoot and fault find any defects on machines and carry out repairs as necessary.
  • Carry out inspections and repairs
  • Work with other departments within Technical Services to carry out in-house repairs to fire training rigs

 

 

What I need to do the job?

 

 

  • Time served HGV mechanic with in-depth knowledge of LGV/HGV's
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in heavy vehicle service, maintenance, and repair
  • Experience working on Fire Appliances desirable but not essential
  • Hold a HGV Class 1 licence desirable but not essential
  • Experience of basic welding desirable but not essential
  • Experience working with several different chassis
  • Working knowledge of health and safety procedures and regulations. E.g. COSHH
