Here at Serco we are looking for a H&S Manager to join us at HMP Fosse Way. Reporting directly to the Senior Health, Safety & Environment Manager, the HSE Manager will provide 'on site' specialist HSE advice, assurance, and support across the specified J&I contract location, thereby ensuring the BU HSE provision is managed in accordance with corporate, contractual, and regulatory requirements and promoting a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible culture. There may be a requirement to support other contracts within the UK from time to time.

The role is required to foster positive relationships with HSE managers across the J&I business, the contract SMT and wider workforce, the Customer and within the Division.


Some of the other responsibilities of the H&S Manager are as follows:


  • Working to deliver specialist on-site HSE support, assurance, and advice to specified J&I contracts in a timely, accurate manner.
  • To provide SME support and to advise upon HSE related activity to bring about organisational resilience across J&I contracts.
  • To promote understanding of and adherence to corporate, contractual, and regulatory HSE requirements.
  • To advise and support the Contract Director and operational staff upon those measures necessary to manage HSE related risks and vulnerabilities.
  • To guide, support and promote the development, implementation, and continual improvement of protocols necessary to embed a consistent, sustainable HSE management system and culture within J&I contracts in line with corporate strategy.
  • To provide specialist SME support to bid and transformation projects / programmes. To represent the J&I contract interests and support BU output through the provision of HSE related advice to managers and leaders of business support functions within the J&I business unit. To liaise with external agencies as necessary and collaborate with other HSE professionals within UK&E to facilitate the sharing of HSE related information and best practice.


What you will need to do the role

Proven expertise of managing HSE. A Minimum NEBOSH level 3 (or equivalent recognised body). Member of IOSH. Specialist Fire Risk Assessment and Environmental qualifications are desirable. A sound appreciation of the HSE risks and regulatory environments which exist across the J&I sector. An understanding of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001. People management - evidence of the ability to influence leaders and managers. The ability to maintain productive engagement with business customers and stakeholders. Full UK driving licence.
