HMP Dovegate

Full time - 40 hours per week.

Salary - £29,528.00, plus Serco benefits.

 

Main purpose:

 

To deliver high quality Information, Advice and Guidance, to all learners from their arrival in prison and throughout their learner journey.

To advise individuals on employment, training, and educational opportunities to help them make well informed and realistic decisions about their future.

To develop and maintain new and existing links with internal and external agencies providing education, training, and employment opportunities.

To support the education department in the delivery and execution of key objectives.

 

Main Accountabilities:

 

  • To sequence a learner's journey through Custody by attend initial Allocations Boards and labour Boards to provide careers information, advice, and guidance on a one-to-one and group session basis across all 3 College sites.
  • To deliver guidance interviews for prospective College applicants and monitor their effectiveness.
  • To maintain accurate records of one-to-one interviews and interventions.
  • To refer learners to appropriate providers for employment, education, and training during custody and on release.
  • To collect and update information on local opportunities, job seeking skills and related issues available through external providers to meet the needs of the population.
  • To develop relationships with education, training and employment to ensure learner needs are met.
  • Ensuring that higher needs learners are always accommodated for and working closely with the SEN Tutor
  • To develop and provide offenders access to information, advice and guidance services that are appropriate to their individual situation.
  • Work closely with Education and the Offender Management Unit in setting and reviewing targets.
  • To reflect upon and evaluate personal performance, participating in appraisals and taking personal responsibility for keeping professionally up to date, requesting, and participating personal development as appropriate.
  • To keep up to date with and react to any Government initiatives and legislation which directly impacts upon the delivery of careers education and guidance.
  • To support the department and share best practice.
  • To attend and contribute to meetings as requested.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • To undertake other duties as directed by the management team.
  • To wear full uniform provided always including tie/cravat unless instructed by the Director to relax specific items.

Qualifications:

Minimum

  • GCSE (Grade C or above) Maths and English
  • IAG Level 3 qualification working towards Level 5
  • ECDL qualification or equivalent at level 2

Desirable

  • IAG Level 5 qualification
  • Advanced ECDL qualification or equivalent.

Knowledge:

  • An understanding of career development options
  • Knowledge of current Code of Practice requirements

Experience:

  • Working with challenging groups.
  • Previous experience of working in an IAG setting.                     
  • Previous experience of partnership work.
  • Experience of running employability skills workshops.
  • Ability to confidently work towards achieving targets and deadlines.
  • Ability to develop client CVs.
