Serco Maritime Services deliver maritime support packages tailored to our customers' needs all delivered within a national accreditation framework. As owners and operators of specialist vessels, from harbour workboats to oceangoing support vessels, we provide world class integrated maritime services both in the UK and abroad. We are currently recruiting for an In Port Engineer to join our existing team on a 12-month fixed term contract. This role supports the Maritime Services Contract in Devonport and is responsible for supporting the Vessel Master with all matters pertaining to engineering and electrical operation, maintenance, and defect rectification.

 

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Responsible for the operations of the engine room and maintenance of all types of machinery and equipment onboard the vessel.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all vessel machinery and equipment is working in an efficient manner to support safe navigation.
  • Ensure that adequate safety precautions are taken prior to any task.
  • Keep all engine room records as required by the Company.
  • Endeavour to maximise efficiency of machinery and equipment.
  • Ensure that any repair work being undertaken by sub-contractors is being carried out in a safe and satisfactory manner.
  • Ensure all measures to prevent pollution of the environment are always exercised.
  • Fully conversant with Company Safety Management System.
  • Carry out other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Master.
  • Liaise and consult with the Operations cell and Management Team as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with Customers, Management and Office Staff.

 

What you'll need to do the role:

  • ENG 1 Medical
  • STCW Certificate of Competency - Chief Engineer (minimum of 3000Kw)
  • STCW Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
  • STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR)
  • STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FP&FF)
  • STCW Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF)
  • STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats (PSCRB)
  • STCW Elementary First Aid
  • STCW Medical First Aid
  • Marine Industry background
  • UK Passport Holder / Eligibility to work in the UK due to Naval Base security requirements
