What is the purpose of the role?
We are looking for a Design Assurance Engineer to support Thames Water's Tideway Integration Group (TIG) to meet its obligation under the Tideway Interface Agreement. The role will primarily involve commenting on worksite design submissions from Tideway and their main works contractors in relation to permanent assets that will be transferred to Thames Water on completion of the project. The review will need to consider the safe operation and maintenance by Thames Water whilst working collaboratively to deliver the best for project outcomes.
What makes this role unique?
The Thames Tideway Tunnel project comprises a wastewater storage and transfer tunnel (the 'main tunnel') between Thames Water's existing operational sites at Acton storm tanks and Abbey Mills pumping station. The alignment of the tunnel will allow the capture of existing combined sewage flows from 34 'unsatisfactory' CSOs that currently discharge into the Thames. The flows will be stored in the main tunnel system during times of extreme flow and subsequently transferred to Beckton sewage treatment works for treatment via the Lee Tunnel. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to get involved with the role that Thames Water is playing in delivering the £4.2 billion Thames Tideway Tunnel (super sewer). This is a great opportunity to work independently and as part of a wider team.
What will this role involve?
The key activities for the position:
Review / respond to technical submissions from Tideway and their main works Contractors in terms of permanent assets passed to Thames Water on completion of the Tideway project.
Attendance at OpMan review and close-out meetings, including updating of departmental OpMan tracker.
Attendance Interdisciplinary Design Review (IDR) and other associated design related meetings.
Project close-out reporting and archiving.
Provide local design support to TIG's asset protection and construction teams as required.
Assist with implementation of TIG processes and procedures for data capture, review and distribution.
Assist with compiling monthly Design Assurance reports.
Liaison with Thames Water's local Field Operations teams to update them on the status / development of Tideway worksite.
What are we looking for?
This role requires the candidate to be educated to degree level (Civil Engineering) with a strong understanding sewerage design. Have strong interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to work within a team environment. The role would suit a self-motivated individual. Build and maintain close working relationships with Tideway and their Contractors to become an integral part of the project delivery team and to deliver outcomes to the benefit of Thames Water and the project.
