Job Title: Life Skills Tutor
Salary: £32,132- £34,731 per annum plus Serco benefits
Location: HMP Dovegate, Uttoxeter
Working hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week, 7:45am- 4:30pm
Here at Serco we are looking for Life Skills Tutor to join our team at HMP Dovegate a category B male establishment prison based on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border near Uttoxeter. The operational capacity is for 1100 prisoners and it takes a whole team of people to keep the facility safe, secure and in proper working order.
The key purpose of this role is to develop, administer and teach college courses in line with the core curriculum and awarding body specification(s) as agreed with your Line Manager. This role will be primarily delivering Money Management Drug and Alcohol Awareness courses in addition to other Employability and life skills courses in line with the needs of our population needs.
As a life skills Tutor you will contribute to curriculum development in your subject. You will be responsible for Quality Assurance of your teaching and/or other duties. Additionally, you will assist management in the delivery of an education provision which increases employability, reduces the likelihood of reoffending, and prepares prisoners for a successful return to the community and life in a modern Britain.
Furthermore, you will act as Personal Tutor to groups of students and undertake the duties associated with this pastoral role. Engage in core duties including preparation, marking, monitoring student progress, preparing reports, setting and marking of examination papers, developing and preparing flexible learning materials, writing schemes of work and mentoring.
What you need to do the job:
This is an opportunity for an inspiring tutor with a background in education and ideally will have had some experience of working within your specialist area. Consideration will be given to applicants from a non-educational background with extensive experience in the core areas listed. Good technical knowledge and skills are essential. Experience of working with learners from non-traditional backgrounds would also be beneficial. You will be gifted in delivering varied, high quality and imaginative sessions and have a record of good retention and success rates.
As a minimum you must hold a Level 3 Award in Education & Training (QCF), A level 3 in Life Skills and a Level 2 in Maths, English and ICT.
Having experience of a custodial environment would be an advantage.
Similarly, having experience of working with learners from non-traditional backgrounds would be highly beneficial for this post.
