Serco manage the recruitment process on behalf of Birmingham Community Leisure Trust and manage their employees in the delivery of leisure services. Birmingham Community Leisure Trust will be your ultimate employer.
Here at Birmingham Community Leisure Trust and our partner Serco Leisure Operating Ltd our goal is to get more people, more active, more often. We provide affordable access to a wide range of sports and leisure facilities to support healthier and happier people across all segments of the local community. To deliver those services takes an enthusiastic and customer focused team - and right now we are looking to recruit for Lifeguards to join our leisure centres. Even if you do not hold your qualification yet, please apply as we do have fully funded Lifeguard courses taking place throughout the year.
As a Lifeguard you'll be an important part of life here at the centre as you ensure that everyone can use the pool in safety and that they have access to everything they need to enjoy their visit. Without you there can't be any pool activity. But you won't be working alone. Our leisure centre has a close knit and supportive team, all working towards providing an inclusive leisure hub for the entire community.
We share your passion for leisure, and we will offer a safe, fun, and professional working environment with excellent development opportunities. NPLQ Lifeguards at Serco Leisure have followed exciting career paths going on to be swimming teachers, duty managers or even contract managers, to name a few options! We will support you in your career path and you will also receive free gym membership for you and a family member across our fantastic leisure centres!
What you'll need to do the role
Firstly, you'll need to have strong swimming skills and a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (Royal Life Saving Society) or equivalent. If you do not hold your qualification yet, please apply as we do have fully funded Lifeguard courses taking place throughout the year.
You'll need to have excellent customer service skills as you'll be interacting heavily with our customers. So, whether you've earned that experience in a leisure or another customer facing environment, you'll be a people person who is happy dealing with people of all ages and backgrounds.
You will be providing customer care to people of all ages, supervising activities, maintaining high standards of cleanliness in the pool area, and ensuring the safe handling and set up of pool equipment. And of course, when needed - you'll help to save lives.
As a lifeguard you'll naturally need to be safety conscious, vigilant, and able to deal with pressurised situations.
Meaningful and vital work: Swimming pools are the beating hearts of our leisure centres and without lifeguards we can't operate. They ensure that our customers can enjoy their activity in safety and when needed they save lives
A world of opportunity: Our lifeguards are integral to the running of our centres, so as well progressing into senior lifeguard positions they can move into other centre management roles in one of our 55 facilities.
Great people: Our centres are close-knit and friendly, and we rely on each other for support. As well as the backing of the team you'll also find all the resources you need for career progression through Serco Learning
