Serco Defence are recruiting for a Logistics Technician to work as a key member of a dedicated operations and maintenance team. This is a permanent position based at RAF Fylingdales, North Yorkshire, offering employment in a unique engineering environment which may require occasional travel for training and operational support at other Serco sites.  

 

This position is a day working position based at Fylingdales. This is a new position incorporating the roles Materials Controller and Day Support Technician. It is expected that the position and responsibilities will grow depending on operational needs. Training will be provided on-the-job and also via formal training provided at other establishments depending on technical experience of the candidate.

 

The Logistics Technician will be the day-to-day interface between Serco operations and maintenance staff, the RAF supply system, and external vendors. The post holder will be responsible for all inwards and outward goods and services required for continuous and efficient operation of the SSPAR Support Contract.

 

In additional to logistics duties the candidate will be required to complement the Day Support Team of Technicians. Incorporating duties assisting qualified technicians with:

  • Electrical sub-system maintenance.
  • HVAC system maintenance.
  • Portable appliance testing.
  • Maintenance of compressed air systems.
  • Control and maintenance of local IT systems.
  • Radiation safety testing for working at height.
  • ISO9001:2015 audits.

 

What you'll need to do the role: 

We are looking for someone with a technical background who is engaging, reliable, determined, and hardworking, and has an interest in the engineering industry. Successful applicants must be self-motivated to constantly learn and develop new skills whilst having a flexible attitude towards work, occasionally working outdoors in various weather conditions and able to climb ladders and work at height.  

 

You will need three GCSEs Grade A to C in Maths, English and a Science subject (or equivalent). Alternatively, suitable experience in procurement or technical maintenance would be considered.

 

Due to the complexity of this role, a HNC or equivalent in a suitable engineering discipline in electrical systems coupled with related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

 

Site familiarisation and on-the-job training will be provided at RAF Fylingdales. Required technical training will be also conducted at RAF Fylingdales but will be reliant on the employed individual possessing fundamental knowledge and capability in engineering, mathematics, and science. 

 

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a high level of written and spoken English. 

 

Due to the nature of our work, the successful candidate must be able to pass SC clearance, which includes a criminal records check. Additionally, as the role is related to UK Defence, only UK nationals can be considered for the role as directed by the MOD.
