Here at Serco, we are recruiting for a Post Room Messenger to join the team at the Defence Academy. This role will sort, deliver, and collect all items of mail in accordance with Joint Service Publication 367 and Serco Operating procedures in support of Shrivenham Station and Serco departmental activities. The post holder will be an active member of a flexible team providing an efficient mail service to the Defence Academy.

 

Serco is contracted to provide Total Facilities Management to the Defence Academy of the UK (DA). This prestigious establishment is responsible for post-graduate education and the majority of the command, staff, leadership, Defence management, acquisition and technology training for members of the UK Armed Forces and MOD Civil Servants. Serco supports the DA as the MOD's primary link with UK universities and international military educational institutions.

 

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Take responsibility for the internal and external secure distribution and collection arrangements for all mail including:
    • Protectively Marked mail.
    • Defence Courier mail.
    • Despatch and receipt of signals through the COMCEN at RAF Brize Norton.
    • Special Delivery and/or Recorded Mail.
  • Responsible for the sorting of incoming mail, both from internal and external sources, and the distribution of mail into the appropriate pigeonholes.
  • Proficient in the use of all Post Room Equipment.
  • Exercise care and security of equipment issued to the Post Room.
  • Assist with the franking process of outgoing mail.
  • Delivery and collection of parcels and larger items between rounds.
  • Delivery of priority items and obtaining signatures.
  • Delivery of security pouches containing protectively marked documents and obtaining signatures.

 

What you'll need to do the role:

  • Good level of general educations with GCSE's (A-C) or equivalent in English.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous experience in a Customer Service facing role.
  • Previous administration and/or post room experience.
  • Knowledge of general office practices.
  • PC literate, with experience in MS Outlook.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to proactively manage own workload.
  • Flexible and positive attitude towards teamwork.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Full Driving Licence.
  • Must be able to achieve SC Clearance prior to appointment, Serco will arrange this on your behalf.
