Manufacturing Process Engineer
The Manufacturing Process Engineer will plan, develop, qualify, optimise and maintain component manufacturing and assembly processes key to our Industrialisation efforts. A core objective of the role is to provide definition and standardised documentation of manufacturing processes and to have oversight of compliance with these and other standards.
The post holder should use their product knowledge and practical experience of assembly and manufacturing processes to support DFM efforts in conjunction with Design Engineering, identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement and, where necessary, to conduct effective root cause analysis of any deviation from the expected outcome. The ideal candidate would use methods to proactively identify and overcome risks within the manufacturing process, both on site and in conjunction with suppliers.

The role will define the industrialised manufacturing processes and assembly layouts required to bring our concepts through development to production and sub-assemblies, at rates and volumes consistent with Supply Chain strategy and programme growth needs.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Develop the Manufacturing engineering function and cross functional relationships
  • Drive a stop and fix mentality
  • Develop new manufacturing capabilities
  • Define and document process requirements
  • Create and control technical standards
  • Implement requirements of international standards and regulations
  • Document and maintain control of manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Determine TAKT, labour and tooling requirements for delivery targets and use to inform shop layout
  • Seek and implement process improvements
  • Improve process yield rates
  • Reduce costs
  • Optimise process cycle times
  • Resolve workshop enquiries
  • Monitor and act on any deviation to process, investigate and drive to root cause
  • Coordinate Manufacturing Readiness Reviews
  • Define First Off and First Article Inspection and V&V requirements
  • Provide input to PDR and CDR reviews



Experience
Essential

  • Relevant production experience, developing and maintaining manufacturing processes
  • A broad knowledge in core manufacturing techniques, process variables and control including conventional machining, joining, fabrication and heat treatment
  • Expert in interpreting drawings to provide dimensional inspection or manufacturing requirements and informed selection of appropriate techniques of measurement


Desirable

  • Purchasing or project management experience
  • Previous use of production control/ manufacturing resource planning software
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma Green or Black belt
  • FMEA and effective root cause analysis toolset experience
