Salary: £36,000 per annum plus Serco benefits

Working hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week


Brook House opened in March 2009 and is located on the south perimeter of Gatwick Airport. It has the capacity to hold 448 adult male residents, in en-suite bedrooms on 5 separate units that are connected by a communal corridor where facilities such as healthcare, gym, visits, education and recreational activities are located. Each residential unit has showers, a dining area, a Skype facility and access to a courtyard.

Tinsley House opened in 1996 and was the first purpose-built Immigration Removal Centre in the UK. It is located approx. half a mile from Brook House on the perimeter of Gatwick Airport. The centre underwent significant refurbishment in 2017 and has the capacity for 162 adult male residents in shared bedrooms with access to communal facilities such as a library, IT suite, gym, healthcare, a dining room and a courtyard.

Both centres have dedicated welfare teams of officers trained to assist residents with accessing legal support, getting property or money transferred and other matters that may require resolution prior to leaving the UK.


The key purpose of this role is to carry out routine HVAC and/or Mechanical Engineering work, preventative maintenance and repairs. You will be required to assist in specifying and obtaining spare parts, and other items of equipment which may be required to ensure the continuous and efficient operation of the technical estate. You will maintain records of tools and report this as required.


Some of your other key accountabilities will include:

  • Ability to prioritise workload, working in a logical and methodical manner
  • To ensure that various pre planned maintenance schedules are kept up to date and maintained as may be required
  • To carry out fault finding and defect rectification to items of installed plant and equipment as may be defined and specified
  • To escort contractors around the site as and when required in accordance with written procedures.



What you need to do the job

You are required to have HVAC and/or Mechanical Engineering Qualification (C&G, NVQ). You should be a member of relevant technical professional body desired.


Lastly, because of the nature of the work, all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office and you must be able to pass a CRB Clearance and Security Clearance at CTC level (Counter Terrorism Check).
