Operations H&S advisor

What is the purpose of the role?

As a Regional Health and Safety Advisor in our Water & Waste Networks, you will be responsible for providing professional and practical Safety, Health & Wellbeing advice to management, employees and contractors working across the Thames Valley region. You will assist in the delivery our business strategy and vision whilst ensuring compliance with Thames Water SH&W management systems, standards, processes and procedures. You will be expected to lead by good example.

What will this role involve?

This role will involve:

Assisting with the successful interpretation, implementation and delivery of the organisational essential standards within your region, whilst constantly seeking ways of improving safety performance.

Offering competent advice and guidance to all the regional operational managers, their staff and other stakeholders which will include our contractor supply chain.

Developing and implementing local and Thames Water wide initiatives designed to improve occupational health & safety performance and bring about cultural change.

Leading and undertaking audits, undertaking site and facility inspections and undertaking accident and incident investigations.

You will be expected to identify areas of non-compliance, incident causation and root causes.

Implement plans for improvement and effectively communicate lessons that have been learned.

Producing weekly and monthly performance reports, completing investigation reports, safety bulletins and other written briefs in a concise and timely manner.

Assisting managers and their operational staff with the review of externally submitted safe systems of work and risk assessments where significant risks have been identified.

Ensuring individuals remain competent, qualified fit and well to undertake their role.

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have a firm understanding of safety legislation and a demonstrable knowledge of occupational health and wellbeing. The ability to manage safety effectively. Multi-site experience. Experience in the utilities sector. The ability to interact, communicate and work with others effectively. The ability to self-manage, plan agendas and meet deadlines. You will ideally have relevant work experience working with or within confined spaces (tunnels and sewers). Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Confidence to communicate at all levels, assertive and understanding. We are looking for a self-motivated, committed, trustworthy and reliable candidate who is able to listen, learn and develop, you must be a team player. Ideally the NEBOSH diploma or a clear plan to achieve Diploma and Chartered status with IOSH. NEBOSH Fire. A full driving licence. Travel will be required on a daily basis.

Thames Water information and salary details

This role is based at our Greenwich Storm site, although base location is flexible. We are offering a salary of up to £50,000 depending on experience.
