What is the purpose of the role?
We are seeking a motivated people-manager to lead and develop a team of up to 10 multi-skilled technicians and operators. You will drive their personal performance and improve the overall engagement, whilst managing in line with HR policies and process. Increasing customer service and operational performance within strict quality targets is vital to the success of this role and will be achieved in line with a strong health and safety focus. Day to day activities will include managing a budget, ensuring statutory planned and reactive maintenance is carried out and effluent discharge compliance is maintained through effective performance management of our sewage treatment works. Sludge management is an integral part of running the area, so it is vital that sludge is removed from our smaller sites to larger reception sites. This role will be covering the sewage treatment works in the Wargrave catchment area.

What will this role involve?
Process Management - ensuring site compliance and the site achieves and maintains its required plant availability and reliability in order to meet quality targets at the agreed cost.
Financial Management - owning and managing the budgetary and financial activities of the team and driving efficiencies into the overall operational budget.
Performance Management - ensuring the team achieve optimal performance in terms of work management and you will be responsible for developing the team and introducing new skills and health and safety awareness.
Customer & Stakeholder Management - ensuring an exceptional service to our customers with early personal interventions as required.
Health and Safety - you will effectively lead the health and safety culture of the team as well as auditing the health and safety system and processes.
What are we looking for?
Do you have previous experience managing operational staff? Are you focused on continuous improvement? If so, this may be the role for you. We are seeking an experienced people-manager with a proven track record of engaging and developing their team, ideally with field-based members. You will be used to taking the lead and achieving results in a difficult environment, with a strong focus on and good working knowledge of health and safety. You will have experience managing the operational budget with a structured and proactive approach. Ideally, your technical knowledge of electrical and mechanical principals will be underpinned by a background in wastewater however, this is not essential. You will need to be competent in using IT equipment and systems and be able to interpret complex Excel spreadsheets. Due to the nature of this role, full valid driving licence is needed.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is based out of our Wargrave sewage treatment works in Berkshire, but will also have responsibilities covering the surrounding area. We are offering a salary up to £44,000 depending on skills and experience. Our excellent salary package includes a competitive contributory pension and a wider benefits scheme which includes an annual pay review, season ticket loans and loyalty awards for continuous service plus many more. Participation in a 24/7 Out of Hours Standby rota may be required after a suitable period of training and assessment, for which you will receive an additional payment.
