£18,878.11 per annum plus benefits


Serco have an exciting opportunity for a Porter to join the team at the Defence Academy based in Shrivenham.


Serco is contracted to provide Total Facilities Management to the Defence Academy of the UK (DA). This prestigious establishment is responsible for post-graduate education and the majority of the command, staff, leadership, Defence management, acquisition, and technology training for members of the UK Armed Forces and MOD Civil Servants. Serco supports the DA as the MOD's primary link with UK universities and international military educational institutions.


About the role

The post holder will provide a porter service on request for the movement of equipment and goods within the confines of the campus and offsite within normal working hours. This role includes working outside in all weathers when required. Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • General portering tasks.
  • Movement of stores, furniture, and equipment.
  • Clearance of waste materials.
  • Reconfiguration of Teaching facilities.
  • Assist reprographics staff with JSCSC/DA course material delivery.


What you'll need to do the job

To be considered for this role you will need to hold a Full UK Category B Driving Licence. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work well as a team and independently. This is a physical role, manual handling, moving, and setting up of equipment held centrally to instructional venues and set up prior to the requested lecture commencement time and return to store after use.


It is preferable that you have previous experience of working as a porter or working in a physical environment. You will need good numeracy and literacy skills and be computer literate.


The Defence Academy sits within a beautiful and secure site which hosts 2 lakes and is surrounded by acres of scenic woodland. The Academy trains the future commanders and staff officers of all three UK Armed Services and those from many countries around the world. Other benefits of working on this site include:
