Principal Bid Lead - Environmental Services

Here at Serco, we are seeking a Principal Bid Lead with proven experience in structuring, leading and winning Bids of significant complexity and scale, with specific focus on bidding and winning work with Public Sector bodies. The role will focus primarily on Environmental Services opportunities and will lead a team of bidding professionals in this sector. 


Within the Environmental Services Team, you will provide both day to day leadership, coaching and mentoring, and will run specific deals. An important part of this role will be leading the team to review and challenge how we work, seeking improvements that will support improved win rates, contractual performance and employee satisfaction within the ES bidding team.


As part of this you'll:


  • Deliver allocated bids in line with targets set for specific portfolio of responsibility
  • Develop and maintain effective Bid Plans that leverage the Business Development activity set out within the Capture Plan
  • Identify and resource team requirements, including where appropriate external providers and suppliers
  • Manage and sustain Bid Team capabilities, capacity and welfare throughout the bidding process
  • Engage with the Business Unit Business Development Team, supporting and providing positive challenge to the development of Capture Plans that will influence upcoming Bids
  • Lead customer engagement including Negotiation and Dialogue, Presentations, and Clarification Questions


What you'll need to do the role: 


  • Sustained Bid experience in this (or a similar) market; showing both technical and leadership skills translating into positive outcomes for the customer, the company and employees working on bids
  • Specific knowledge of the Environmental Services market including trends in demand and solution options are beneficial
  • Ability to assess capture performance to measure effectiveness, anticipate and resolve problems
  • Proficiency in bidding methodologies, and ability to flex and adapt to ensure excellence of execution over tick box compliance
  • Exhibit Leadership skills that focus on team members and wider stakeholders of different levels in an appropriate and nuanced fashion
  • Ability to operate successfully in a challenging, changeable and high-profile role, within a volatile and dynamic market environment
